The myth of a perfect body

Now that the summer has come every girl tries to find the perfect bikini. While I was searching online I stumbled upon the Victoria's Secret beachwear catalogue and I saw Andriana Lima.. My first reaction was "ohh I look soo fat, I must loose weight now!!"
I panicked but then I noticed that her body although is smoking hot has been obviously photoshopped. The picture below shows how her real body looks like. She is perfect and the fact that she's already a mom gives her extra points for having this body, but what we see in the first photo is not the real Adriana. She has slightly bigger belly and her butt is not as round as it appears in the VS photoshoots.Nowadays girls feel more insecure about their body image than ever! The problem starts when the industries bombard the market with pictures of figures that don't actually exist! I mean that Adriana and all the other vs models are perfect! They don't have any flaws but real bodies have some imperfections that the industry can't forgive such as love-handles, really small or really big breasts. This is quite normal for a natural shape but nowadays seems that we have forgot what a natural beauty means. These are some photos from VS catalogue from 1979.As you can see the models have amazing bodies and they are naturally beautiful.Back then there was no fake tan or hair extensions. They had  uneven skin tones, slight love handles and even sagging breasts.(which actually are not saggy but natural, I guess that saggy today is a term referring to breasts that are not fake)Today those pictures seem to have way too many mistakes to be published.I have to admit that sometimes I feel trapped by those images of perfect women and although I have a normal body I get furious that I'm not good enough.I know that this is not true.I love my body but it seems that sometimes I forget to tell myself that this is me and I'm perfect the way I am!How do you feel about your image?Have you ever felt that the industry gives unrealistic shapes of bodies.Gracie

  4. I cannot agree more with you ! Unfortunately nowadays girls like us feel insecure and the media is to blame. I can't understand why the can't leave something as natural as it is... I think there should be a magazine where every model there is not photo shopped.

  5. The models in the 70s posters look pretty fake tanned to me. They are also very toned, probably on a strict, strict diet & excercise plan! They are models after all. The problem with VS adverts/photoshoots is that they are targeted at women but are tailored to make women hate themselves, rather than make them feel good! They also seem to value a certain type of beauty over all others, making women looks like clones of one another! Women are amazing because we are all different & that individuality should be celebrated!

    I really liked photoshoots like V magazine's Curves Ahead http://style.popcrunch.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/V-Plus-Sized-Issue-Pics.jpg http://h6img.com/g/6/how-do-you-like-your-women-2.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Bh88nWUgmgE/S0LU5oLe7YI/AAAAAAAADEU/2qM_D1EQl5o/s1600-h/VMAG%2B

But I think what would be the ideal thing in fashion mags would be women of ALL sizes, like the ladies in V & women like Ariana Lima, appearing side by side in magazines as a celebration of womens' idividuality, and not as comparison, but as a standard thing to do.

I really like your post, especially the title as the perfect body IS a myth! Perfection is subjective so not everyone is going to agree on what perfect really is. Also, if you are constantly striving for perfection you will NEVER be happy. Women need to learn to be happy in the bodies that they are in!

    Great post x

  10. Love it, especially the vintage VS ads. My best advice is doing what feels good to your body-- which doesn't always been eating like a rabbit or over indulging. Eat what youd like within reason and keep exercise in your daily life. Overall you'll feel very confortabke with the way you look <3

  16. You are totally right!
I really like my body, and people around me appreciate me as i am, even boys.
So why be soo fake? What's the point?

    1. kind of.. the point is not fakery by itself but the image that young girls receive which is totally unrealistic.
It's not bad to use fake tan but when it gets out of control it's horrible. There are many girls that don't feel pretty without make up, fake tan and hair extensions.

  17. Of course the industry gives us unrealistic ideas of perfection and beauty! I have always hated makeup ads and makeup sections in magazines because of this. I don't actually want those freakishly long and thick eyelashes, they look weird. The past few years I've just been focused on healthy, rather than skinny. Strong rather than thin. I have grown to like my body. I don't see imperfections, they are quirks that make me me. I am also not bombarded by the images the same way some people are. I do not have television, I do not read fashion magazines, and I do not shop where there are fashion magazines or commercials or advertisements. We need to stop comparing ourselves to others, fake or real, and embrace what we are. If we need to change, it needs to be what is best for us, not what society thinks we should be.

  18. I would much rather be real than fake. And in my opinion if someone doesn't like it, it's totally their loss. I love having curves and I wouldn't want to be super thin. Sure, I think (like probably every other woman on the planet) that I got a bit of a bigger stomach which I totally wish could be flatter but I just don't have the patience or determination to diet or exercise haha. I don't like to do something that isn't enjoyable! Instead I'll just cover up in some hot 1950's styled swimsuits!

  19. Being nature in whatever way beautiful and I totally agree with you. I wonder how many fake we go through every day on ads and beauty sites.
There’s nothing perfect and I only look for the best in me. Every woman is beautiful in their own unique way. The last two photos are truly good and nature... Love it!
